John Francis McInerney 1915 - 1970

John Francis McInerney of Hawthorn Australia was born in 1915 in Wangaratta, VIC to Annie Leonora (Fraser) Mcinerney and Francis William Mcinerney. He had siblings Annie Frances Mary Mcinerney, George Francis Mcinerney, Thomas Francis Mcinerney, and Thomas Francis Mcinerney. He married Alice Mary (McAlister) McInerney, and had children Kathleen McInerney and Patricia McInerney. John McInerney died at age 54 years old on September 30, 1970 in Hawthorn, and was buried at Springvale Botanical Cemetery 600 Princes Hwy, in Springvale, Greater Dandenong City County.

In 1915, in the year that John Francis McInerney was born, The Birth of a Nation opened in February. A silent film, it was the most ambitious film to date and is considered a classic. Three hours long, it starred Lillian Gish and was directed by D. W. Griffith. The movie was based on the book The Clansman and told the story of two families (one pro-Union and one pro-Confederate) and their relationship during the Civil War and Reconstruction. The KKK was shown as "a heroic force".

In 1935, at the age of 20 years old, John was alive when on August 14, the Social Security Act was signed into law. The purpose was to "provide federal assistance to those unable to work". The law established the Social Security Administration whose primary focus was to "provide aid for the elderly, the unemployed, and children". The Act survived many Supreme Court challenges and the Administration continues until today.
