    My grandfather was a lovely man! He had a wonderful daughter named Valerie Pearl, and I am fortunate enough to be her her son.I am so very sad that my grandfather gave his life for this mess of a country! far better he had stayed at home, then both Mum and I could have known him. Mum was seven when his ship was sunk by U-69 submarine off the African coast by the Canarie Islands in the morning of the 3rd July 1941. Fred, along with 55 others died as the U-boat left them to sink and picked up no survivors!
