He married Mary Annie (Griffin) Doxey, and had children Mary Marguerita Doxey, Hercules Pole, John Going, and Ellen Florence Doxey. John Doxey died at age 79 years old on December 8, 1944 in South Melbourne, VIC.

DOXEY. –On December 8 1944 at Prince Henry's Hospital, John Going Doxey, third eldest son of the late J. G. and M. A. Doxey (late of Glendoxey, Seymour), and loving brother of Laura (deceased), Arthur (deceased), Ambrose (deceased), Emily (deceased), Pauline (deceased), Maude (deceased), James E., Thomas, and Florence (Mrs. A. Bridges Newport), in his 81st year.
