John Harmson Ruedin c. 1882 - 1937

John Harmson Ruedin of Bendigo, Greater Bendigo City County, VIC Australia was born circa 1882 in Huntly North to Aimè Louis Ruedin and Johanna Henrietta Harmsen Ruedin. He had siblings Henry Edmund Ruedin, Edith Rosamond Ruedin, Ernest Leon Ruedin, Ulysses Ferdinand Ruedin, and Louis Roland Ruedin. He married Rita Marie Goran in 1910, and had a child William Vere Harmsem Ruedin. John Ruedin died at age 55 years old in 1937 in Bendigo.

In 1882, in the year that John Harmson Ruedin was born, on April 3rd, 34 year old outlaw Jesse James was shot in the back of the head by trusted friend and partner Robert Ford. Suspected of colluding with the Governor of Missouri, brothers Robert and Charley Ford were arrested, indicted, plead guilty, sentenced to be hung - then pardoned by the Governor. All in one day.

In 1908, when he was 26 years old, a 7.1 earthquake and the resulting tsunami killed 70,000 to 100,000 people in southern Italy and Sicily. The earthquake, lasting 30 to 40 seconds, occurred in the Strait of Messina which was between the region of Calabria (at the "toe" of Italy) and the island of Sicily and destruction from it occurred in a 186 mile radius. It was the most destructive earthquake ever to hit Europe.
