John Holden died at age 82 years old in 1927 in Rydalmere, Parramatta City Council County.

In 1845, in the year that John Holden Jr. was born, on September 9th, a potato blight began in Ireland, leading to the Great Famine - also called the Great Hunger and the Irish Potato Famine. About one-third of the population of Ireland had been dependent on the potato and the failure of potato crops led to a million people dying and the emigration of another million people.

In 1856, at the age of only 11 years old, John was alive when on February 18th, The American Party, also called the "Know-Nothings" because they were an anti-Catholic and anti-immigrant movement, assembled in Philadelphia to nominate their first Presidential candidate, former President Millard Fillmore. The party sought to keep the "purity" of elections by blocking "impure" foreigners.
