John Joseph Cummins was born on April 14, 1917 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York United States. He was married to Helen Bernadette Cummins in 1948 in Queens, Queens County, and they were together until Helen's death on May 14, 1998 in Middle Village. He had children John Thomas Cummins, Kenneth George Cummins, Elaine Marie Muratore, and Richard Joseph Cummins. John Cummins died at age 87 years old on December 8, 2004 in Middle Village, Queens County, and was buried on December 12, 2004 at Cemetery of the Holy Rood 111 Old Country Rd, in Westbury, Nassau County.

In 1928, at the age of only 11 years old, John was alive when Mickie Mouse was born! He first appeared in Disney's Steamboat Willie, along with Minnie. Although they were in two previous shorts, this was the first to be distributed. Steamboat Willie took advantage of the new technology and was a "talkie" - music was coordinated with the animation. It became the most popular cartoon of its day.
