The Bendigo Independent, 20 March 1909. Drunks and Disorderlies. John Joseph Liddy was presented by Senior Constable Myers, of Quarry Hill, on a charge of drunkenness. Sergeant Gawley applied for a remand for a week, as the defendant had been drinking heavily for some time. Senior Constable Myers said that Liddy had been drinking continuously for a month, and it was feared by his people that he would come to some harm if he were not stopped. The defendant said; " I am all right now, and will never drink another bottle of beer, and never enter a hotel again, if discharged." This statement tended more to amusement than conviction, and the remand for seven days was granted. The Bendigo Advertiser, 20 November 1912. DEATH IN THE HOSPITAL. The coroner ( Mr. E. N. Moore ), held an inquiry at the Bendigo Hospital yesterday touching the death of John Joseph Liddy, a miner, aged 32 years of age, which occured at the institution on Sunday.
