    John Joseph Newvine is the son of John "Jack" Henry Newvine (1888-1944) and Mary Anastasia Fogarty Newvin (1891-1957). He was born on August 3, 1913 in Sacramento, California, USA and grew up with siblings Mary Theresa Newvine Kelly (1914-1955), Margaret "Peggy" Patricia Newvine Berneck (1918-2000), William Stephen Newvine (1921-1980), Ruth E. "Mimi" Newvine Whaley (1922-1999), Robert Donald Newvine (1924-1993), and Samuel Alvin Newvine (1925-1982). He enlisted in the US Army on January 10th, 1941, in Buffalo, New York. At the time of his enlistment, John was working as a skilled mechanic and repairman. He joined the Selectees (Enlisted Men) component of the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA, and was assigned the rank of Private. John was honorably discharged from the military after completing his service on January 25th, 1944.. Following his discharge, he returned to civilian life and moved to Portland, Multnomah, Oregon.
