    John Laurent Labreche was born July 18, 1919 in Quebec, Canada to parents Ferdinand Joseph Labreche (1894-1972) and Marie Louise Emma Rondeau (1894-1980). He had a brother, Fernand Henry Labreche (1917-2009). In the early 1920's he and his family immigrated to the states and lived in Central Falls, Providence, Rhode Island, USA. He registered for the military draft on October 16, 1940, in Central Falls, Providence, Rhode Island, USA, at the age of 21. He was self-employed, working for Ferdinand Labreche, and listed his mother, Mary Louise Labreche, as his next of kin. Two years later, on May 28, 1942, John enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 22 in Providence, Rhode Island. He was a Private in the Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA, which was a component of Selectees (Enlisted Men). During his military service, John served as a Private in the U.S. Army for three years and seven months until his honorable discharge on December 23, 1945.
