    By Birth john was a Norwegian, and remained a Norwegian citizen till the end of his days. He was intensely proud of his homeland and it was while he was there on his yearly visit to visit his family that he collapsed and died. If death was coming to him he would not have wanted to die any where else than his native soil. He joined the Norwegian merchant navy when he was 17 years old and was a participant in WW11. He met ivy during the war and they married in 1944, they had 51 happy years together and 4 children. at the time of his death he had 7 grandchildren. At johns funeral his coffin was draped with the Norwegian flag.
