John Morris 1854 - 1932

John Morris was born in 1854. He was married to Louisa Morris, and they were together until death separated them. He had children James Spencer Morris, Herbert Morris, Marion Dorothy Louise (Morris) Love, and Ethel Morris. John Morris died at age 77 years old on October 19, 1932, and was buried at Box Hill Cemetery, 395 Middleborough Rd, in Box Hill, Whitehorse City County, VIC Australia.

    The Argus. Melbourne. 20th October 1932. MORRIS. - On the 19th October, at private hospital, Hawthorn, John, dearly beloved husband of Louisa Morris, of 169 Power street, Hawthorn, and loving father of James, Herbert, Ethel, and Marion ( Mrs. J. Love ). Aged 78 years.

In 1854, in the year that John Morris was born, on May 30th, the Kansas–Nebraska Act became law. The act created both the Kansas Territory and the Nebraska Territory, which would determine for themselves if they would be pro-slavery or free. Both territories allowed slavery but it caused contention within the territories.

In 1872, at the age of 18 years old, John was alive when on May 22nd, President Ulysses S. Grant signed the Amnesty Act of 1872. The Act restored full civil rights to secessionists, including about 150,000 former slaves who had fought in the Confederate Army. About 500 former Confederate sympathizers were not allowed their full civil rights.
