Kocher & Sons was started by Ruldolph Kocher, born Feb. 23, 1840 in Switzerland. Rudolph immigrated to Californis about 1859 and focused on mining. He did not move to San Jose until 1867,then a year later opened one of the earliest jewelry stores in that city. Rudolph was a native of Switzerland and a relative of the Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Theodore Kocher. Rudolph married Anna Elizabeth Luchsinger in San Francisco in 1865. Rudolph died in San Jose November 26, 1917. At the time this add ran in The Bell, the store was still in business and run by Rudolph's son, John Kocher.
