John Savin 1838 - 1906

John Savin was born in 1838 to Samuel Savin and Hannah (Wise) Savin, and had siblings William Savin, Samuel Savin Jr., Ann (Savin) Freeman, Mary (Savin) Addinsall, and Emma (Savin) Poynton. He married Mary Savin ( Walters, and had a child Mary (Savin) Alford. John Savin died at age 68 years old in 1906.

In 1838, in the year that John Savin was born, on May 26th, the Native American Cherokee Nation was forced to march the Trail of Tears - relocating them to west of the Mississippi. When gold was discovered in Georgia in 1828, settlers wanted the Cherokee land. 16,543 natives were forced to march - it is estimated that 2,000 to 6,000 died along the way.

In 1848, John was merely 10 years old when on January 31st, construction began on the Washington Monument in Washington D.C. - but the monument wasn't completed until 1888. A lack of money, the Civil War, and a dispute over who would manage the monument kept halting construction.
