John was raised in the Luthern Church. He joined the Baptist when he married. He raised his children in the Baptist Church. He attended regularly and during his life he taught Sunday School and Training Union classes. At the time of his death he was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Jasper, AR.
Professional Career

From 1949 until 1959, John worked for Phillips Petroleum as an off-shore roughneck in Southern Louisiana. In 1960 he moved the family to Texas City, Texas and took a job at Monsanto Chemical Company. He retired in 1978.
