He had siblings Mary Elizabeth Starkie, John Bernard Starkie, John Edward Starkie, Robert George Starkie, Catherine Eliza Starkie, Ellen Frances Starkie, Agnes Eva Starkie, Janet Maud Starkie, Louisa Ann Starkie, Winifred Starkie, Bernard Henry Starkie, George William Starkie, Florence Ruby Starkie, Ivy May Starkie, Bernard Starkie, John Bernard Starkie, Julia Annie Starkie, Mary Agnes Starkie, Mary Ann Theresa Starkie, Joseph David Starkie, and Elizabeth Starkie. John Starkie died at age 38 years old in 1858.

  • Introduction

    John was born in Ireland (possibly Limerick). He married Mary Bridget Daley in 1846 in London. In 1851 John Lived with his wife, mother and three children at No 5 Finsbury Circus London, the offices of the United Mexican Mining Association. John was a messenger for the Association and his wife and his mother (Mary) were also servants of the association. In 1853 the family emigrated to Melbourne Australia. He had 8 children in total two did not live to see their first birthday. Johns 7th child Joseph is an important historical mayor of Sunbury Victoria and there is statue devoted to joseph in Sunbury. Johns Family were raised as Catholics. John and Mary operated the Caroline Chisholms shelter shed in Aitkens gap Victoria (now Sunbury). John's fifth son John Starkie jnr. moved with his 16 children to Western Australia in pursuit of his wife who left him because he had a drinking problem. John Jnr's wife told her granddaughter that John Snr or his descendent was either a Queens guard or a grenadier guard.
