John Wesley Singleton 1838 - 1924

John Wesley Singleton of Fitzroy South Australia was born on June 23, 1838 in Dublin, Dublin City County, Dublin Ireland to John Singleton and Isabel Daunt Singleton. John Singleton had a sister Mary Quinn Howes. He married Mary Agnes Sophia Singleton, and they had children Herbert Singleton, Charles Singleton, and Henry Singleton. He would also marry Sarah Grace Fordon Singleton, and they had children Kathleen Olive Fordon-Bellgrove, Cecil Wesley Fordon-Bellgrove, Clive Wesley Fordon- Bellgrove, and Basil Danby Fordon-Bellgrove. John Singleton died at age 86 years old in 1924 in Collingwood, VIC Australia.

In 1838, in the year that John Wesley Singleton was born, on February 24th, Representatives William J. Graves (Kentucky) and Jonathan Cilley (Maine) fought a duel with rifles. They faced off at 94 yards. Cilley was hit on Graves' third try - in the femoral artery - and bled to death on the dueling field. The Panic of 1837 and Jackson's presidency had caused an extremely partisan Congress and the duel was a result.
