  • Introduction

    Josefina was called "Pepita". She was my grandmother's cousin, however I am still trying to figure out exactly how they were related. My grandmother's maiden name was Margarita Mercado, so it was through their fathers that they were related. Growing up, I lived with my grandmother and Pepita lived there too. She was like a second grandmother and I loved her dearly. Apparently she always lived with my grandmother because my mother remembers her living with them as a child, and too, census records also indicate she lived with them when my mother was a child. Pepita never married.
