He told me he visited Stratford Farm, empty and deserted, and how sad it was. One day, on my way back to Maine, l did the same thing. I Know what he meant. I called the new owner, asked if it was on the National Register list, since so many national champions were his students at that place. It was still in good shape, but deserted. That's when l realized how many people we were and lost touch, and what a shame.

He came to visit me in Portland, Maine following a Class A show in Bangor. I remember like it was yesterday. I miss him a lot.

"Uncle Joe" was my teacher, mentor, and friend for over 20 years. I will always cherish the memories. He was a brilliant horseman and trusted for his wisdom and integrity. I tried to find him after he was living in Pound Ridge and after bought my first and only home in Saco, Maine, but could not. My horse Princess Scarlet died in 1981.
