I have always considered JOE as my step father. He was an integral part of my life when I was a youngster. Through him I developed a love for philly sports (once taking me and my brother to an Eagles/colts scrimmage at Widner College) and fishing (night blue fishing).
One day he came home with a personalized autograph poster of Bill Bergey, Eagles middle linebacker, who I idolized at the time. I asked him how he got it and he said that Bill had a flat tire that he stopped to help change, and thus was giving the postet signed to me as a thank you. I was amazed and jealous thst Joe was in such close contact with my hero, but I never forgot his generosity towards both Bill and me.
Later in life I found that story a little off. I found out that Bergey used to play cards at the RS club where he worked. Someone told me that Joe was the best knock rummy player they had ever seen. So it was easy to conclude that was the real way he got that poster. It is also easy to conclude that he took bill for a lot of money. Good for you Joe. It was especially a sweeter story once I met Bergey and found him to be a jerk. Hope you got him good.
