    Joseph Edward Dittmeier was born to Adam Sebastian Dittmeier (1881 - 1966) and Philomena Berniedine Nadorff (1885 - 1987). His father was born in Germany and his mother was born in Kentucky. He had nine siblings. Joseph Dittmeier married Helen Luise Fontana (1919 - 1999) on June 5, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky. They had three sons. A veteran of World War II, Joseph served in the United States Army. He enlisted in July of 1942.
