    Joseph Elmer Honick was born to Michal Hajnik (1874 - 1939) and Alzbeta or Erzsebet Szabolyik (1876 - 1952) on March 20th, 1915 in Glassport, Pennsylvania and he had eight siblings: Mike, John, Lizzie, Paul, Emory, Mary, George, and Vincent Hinick or Honick - the siblings used both spellings. On his World War II draft card, Joseph describes himself as being five feet seven and 1/2 inches tall and as weighing 139 pounds. He had blue eyes, brown hair, and a "light" complexion. Joseph E. Honick married Florence Catherine Randolph (1917 - 1985) and they had eight children, including: James, Charles, Ruth Ann, Joseph, Edward and one more son and two more daughters. Note: The Social Security Death Index and his World War II draft card say that Joseph was born on March 20th, 1916. Family records say that he was born on March 20th, 1915.

In 1934, at the age of 18 years old, Joseph was alive when on June 6th, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission was formed as a response to the stock market crash of 1929 and the continuing Great Depression. Previously, the states regulated the offering and sales of stocks - called "blue sky" laws. They were largely ineffective. Roosevelt created a group (one member was Joseph Kennedy, father of the future President Kennedy) who knew Wall Street well and they defined the mission and operating mode for the SEC. The new organization had broad and stringent rules and oversight and restored public confidence in the stock market in the United States.
