A horse and buggy salesman in Texas in his early years then had property farming in Oklahoma and had 3 children but the Dust Bowl caused them to move to California and bought a farm in Turlock Ca. But terrible luck hit again.Having all his money invested in the chicken eggs incubators etc.when the area lost power and cost him all he had invested plus had his 4th child Donald Hildinger who was a surprise - born in 1934.Joseph was a very young 50 I guess because he lived another 46 years. Then they moved to San Francisco and he started working building homes. He told me great stories when I stayed with him about his time selling horses that have made me smile all my life.

Grapes of Wrath
Just a note - my grandparents owned property in Oklahoma when their farm blew away and they had to move, so they moved to Turlock California where they had their 4th child Don Sr..A movie was made about that time and it was named the Grapes of Wrath.

He is/was my grandfather and had a huge heart,he cared for my grandmother solo for over ten years who had a bad case of Alzheimer’s and he worked well into his 80s but had to quit after falling twenty feet that broke both legs while building homes in San Francisco just below then playland next to the Pacific Ocean .He and my grandmother had 4 children 2 boy & 2 girls who had 5 boys 4 girls.I could write a book on what I know about them but not enough space here but he was a super good person and the love he had for his family. I’m a very lucky person to have had him as we called him dad! His grandson Don Jr.
