He married Rose (Wodkowski) Grzendzicki on October 30, 1933 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alpena, Alpena County, and they were married until Joseph's death on November 17, 1994. He had children Blanche Eugenia (Grzendzicki) Peabody, Thomas Joseph Grzendzicki, and Sally Grzendzicki Giannakopoulos. Joseph Grzendzicki was buried in 1994 at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Alpena, Alpena County.

He bought a Winton, which he had seen in an advertisement in Scientific American.
