Joseph's third child, Arthur Joseph Lovett, was born in Donald, Victoria, in 1894. Arthur enlisted in the AIF at Bendigo, Victoria, on September 10 1914. He was not married. (Information taken from service records). He embarked at Melbourne, Victoria, on the HMAT Chilka in the same year, sailing to Egypt, and from there went on to fight at Gallipoli. He was then sent to France where he was killed in action (KIA) on January 8 1917 at Waterlot Farm, Longueval and buried at Delville Wood Cemetery. Apart from my father, John (Jack) Edmond Lovett, Arthur was the only boy in the family. My father was only twelve years old when Joseph passed away, so for the majority of his married life he had no sons. According to one of the local Donald newspapers, Arthur was never the same after his son's passing.
