He was married to Nadzieja Markisz, and had children Genevieve Chmiel, Victor Markisz, Anna (Markisz) Kuc, Felicia (Markisz) Gogoleski, Yanina (Markisz) Ptak, and Stella (Markisz) Zietarski. Joseph Markisz died at age 78 years old in September 1970.

He married a woman named Nadia and they had four girls, Anna, Nuna, Felicia, Stella, Yasha (Jane or Jean) and one son, Victor. They were displaced when war broke out in Poland and after much hardship came here after finally all arriving in England after the War. They moved to Paterson,New Jersey.
