He was married to Mary Ellen (Stephenson) Leith in 1886, and had children Margaret Muriel Jane Leith, Charles John Joseph Leith, Arthur William Henry Leith, Violet Emma Sutherland Leith, Cecil Alexander Stanley Lewis Leith, and Annie Elizabeth May Leith. Joseph Leith died at age 57 years old on November 29, 1916 in Brunswick East, City of Merri-bek County.
