Joseph Michael Brucher was born on September 6, 1921 in Allentown, Lehigh, Pennsylvania to parents Adam Brucher JR (1893-1976) and Helen M. Reinsmith (1893-1981). He had a sister and a brother Adam Walter Brucher who did not survive (1920-1920). Joseph grew up in Reading, Berks, Pennsylvania. At the time of his draft registration on February 16, 1942, he was 20 years old and living in Reading, Berks, Pennsylvania. Then on June 4, 1942, Joseph enlisted in the U.S. Army at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Joseph was assigned to Branch Immaterial - Warrant Officers, USA and the Selectees (Enlisted Men) component. During his military service, Joseph achieved the rank of Private and he served in the US Army during World War II. After his time in the military, he married Lucy Ann Harris (1921-2009) and in the 1950's he and his wife moved to Lynwood, California. The couple were parents to 4 children including Barbara (1947-), Richard (1954-), Joseph Jr (1957-), and another daughter.
