Joseph Michael Urda Jr of Allen Park, Wayne County, MI was born on November 29, 1915 in Windber, Somerset County, Pennsylvania United States to Anna Bednar Urda and Joseph (Jozef) A. Urda. He had siblings John Urda, Helen Urda Dudash, Ann Urda Toczky, Mary Urda Malone, Andrew Urda, Agnes Urda Csikos, and Verna (Verona) Urda. He married Phedora Miller Urda, and had children Barbara Elaine Urda, Joseph Michael Urda III, and Andrea Kathleen Urda Seavitt. Joseph Urda died at age 85 years old on June 7, 2001 at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, MI, and was buried in 2001.

    He died of stomach cancer. He had a massive heart attack while undergoing radiation treatment He had three children with his first wife, Phedora Miller that he married in 1940 in Windber, PA. Barbara was born in July, 1942, Andrea was born on October 6, 1944, and Joseph Michael III on May, 1950. He had two grandchildren, John Richard Norris Seavitt IV and Catherine Louise Seavitt, children of his daughter Andrea, and one granddaughter, Jennifer Joy of his son Joseph. Phedora died of colon cancer in November 1971 at the age of 51. He remarried Martha Zapton in 1976.

In 1915, in the year that Joseph Michael Urda Jr was born, Audrey Munson, playing a model for a sculptor in the film "Inspiration", became the first actress to shed her clothes on screen. Fearing that banning the film would mean that censors would also have to "ban Renaissance art" the film was released, with Munson in the nude scenes and a stand-in doing the acting. (Munson had previously been "America's First Supermodel" and posed nude as the model for many famous artworks.) The film was a hit with audiences.
