    Joseph Theodule Betit was the child of Theodule "Tudge" John Betit (Aug 2, 1897-Jul 1979) and Hermine Mary (Bellemare) Betit (Jan 3, 1894-April 11, 1990). His paternal grandfather was Eugene Damase Betit. He had siblings including an infant boy born and died in 1920, an infant girl born and died 1923, Mary Ann Denise (1925-2019), Edward Eugene (1928-2020), and Louis Marcellin "Louie" Betit (1929-2018). He also had two half siblings, David Marshall Betit (1957-2005) and Leslie Ann Betit (1960-1960). He married Myrtle Eleen (Stemp) Betit (March 29, 1925-2003) on June 21, 1947 in Bennington, Vermont. The couple had multiple children together: Lawrence Joseph Betit (born 1948), Mark Edward Betit (born September 8, 1950), Denise Carol (Betit) Wetzel (bornn 1951), Jean Marie (Betit) Kellum (born January 5, 1955), Karen Ann (bron 1956), Paul Joseph Betit (born October 20, 1957), Paula Elfrieda (Betit) Davis (October 20, 1957- December 8, 2017), and Joseph Lawrence Betit (born June 11, 1961). Joseph was a World War Il veteran, a member of the Sacred Heart Church, a self-taught musician playing in a local band called the "Nite Caps" and also enjoyed fishing. He was employed at Butlers Mink Farm, the Cooper Kneedle Shop, Vermont Container Corporation, and worked at the polygraphic Company in North Bennington for 38 years. His final job was at the Ramada Inn from the time of its opening until he was forced to retire due to ill health. Joseph Theodule Betit passed away on December 14, 1990 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

    Published Saturday December 15, 1990 in the Bennington Banner Newspaper (Bennington, Vermont) BENNINGTON- Joseph T. Betit, 67, a resident of 608 Gage St. died Friday morning at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness. Born in Bennington March 4, 1923, the son of the late Theodule J. and Hermine (Bellemare) Betit, he received his education in Bennington. Mr. Betit was a World War Il veteran. He married the former Myrtle Stemp June 21, 1947 at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington. In earlier years Mr. Betit was employed at Butlers Mink Farm, the Cooper Kneedle Shop and Vermont Container Corporation. He was employed at the former Polygraphic Company in North Bennington for 38 years and had been employed part time for many years at Williams IGA on East Main Street in Bennington and at the Ramada Inn from the time of its opening until he was forced to retire due to ill health. Survivors beside his wife include four daughters, Mrs. Denise Wetzel of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Paula Davis of San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Jean Kellum and Mrs. Karen Wellspeak, both of Bennington; four sons, Lawrence "J. Betit and Mark E. Betit, both of Bennington, Paul J. Betit of Boyartown, Pa. and Joseph L. Betit of Hinsdale, N.H.; 12 grandchildren, then step grandchildren, and one great grandson; two sisters, Mrs. MaryAnn Roy of Pownal and Mrs. Estelle Hoth of Bennington; two brothers, Edward E. Betit of Cheshire, Mass. and Louis M. Betit of Bennington; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews and cousins. The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday morning at 9:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The wake service will be offered Sunday evening. Entombment will take place in Park Lawn Chapel with burial to be in White Chapel Cemetery in the spring. Should friends desire contributions in Mr. Betit's memory may be made to Sacred Heart School through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, P.O. Box 17, Bennington, Vt. 05201. All members of the American Legion Post 13 will meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Sunday evening at 7 p.m. to conduct services.
