He was a graduate of St. Alphonsus High School, Dearborn, Michigan and Wayne State University of Detroit. As an adult, he lived in Ithaca, Tompkins, New York, USA. Joseph registered for the WWII draft on June 28, 1942, in Dearborn, Wayne, Michigan. At the time, he was 20 years old, resided in Dearborn, and his employer was William Hanses.Then on February 13, 1943, Joseph enlisted in the Army. During World War II, Joseph served in the Infantry Division, specifically within the Infantry arm or service. His deployment took him to the European Theatre, specifically France. Joseph's bravery and commitment were evident during the Normandy Invasion, where he displayed exceptional service. In recognition of his valor and sacrifices, he was awarded the Purple Heart. On July 31, 1944, Joseph was located at the Rennes Military Hospital in Rennes, France. During his time in the military, he endured detainment by Germany but was eventually liberated.

Joseph V. Muraca Obituary
Joseph V. Muraca, 76, of 109 Christopher Circle, Ithaca and Zephyrhills, Florida, died at home. Born in Helper, Utah, he was a son of the late Angelo A. and Mary Bonacci Muraca. His wife of fifty years, Virginia Gardner Muraca, died April 4, 1998.

He was a graduate of St. Alphonsus High School, Dearborn, Michigan and Wayne State University of Detroit. Mr. Muraca was a retired Purchasing Manager for Morse Borg-Warner where he worked for 32 years.

He served in the Infantry Division during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart for services during the Normandy Invasion.

He was a founding member of St. Catherine of Siena Church and a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church. He was a member of Cayuga Heights Volunteer Fire Dept., the VFW, the D.A.V. and the 25-year Club of Morse Borg-Warner. Mr. Muraca was also a coach for Kiwanis Baseball.

He is survived by five children; twelve grandchildren; his sister, Frances Warren; an aunt, Geneva Black of Utah; two uncles, Carmine Muraca of italy and Louis Muraca of Argentina; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and two brothers, Paul and Angelo Muraca.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by VFW Post no. 961. Friends may Call at Bangs Funeral Home.
