    Both parents immigrated from Slovenia. His Dad immigrated to pursue Pennsylania Coal Mining but died in December 1907 just months before his son Joseph was born. His mother immigrated in 1907 with daughter Josephine "sophie" Martincic. She died of Pneumonia in 1924. Joseph then left home (West Newton pennsylvania) and worked as a barber out of West Allis Wisconsin before joining the Army. He went west in pursuit of work and settled in Montana where he started working as a farmer, it was in Havre that he met his future wife, a grade school teacher, Esther Seidel. joseph went off to serve in the US army in the Aleutian Islands campaign. Joseph and Esther married in 1944.
