He was in a relationship with Mary (Steeple) Barnsley, and had children John Barnsley, Ann Barnsley, Mary (Barnsley) Wragg, George Barnsley, Joshua Barnsley, and Elizabeth (Barnsley) Steeple. Joshua Barnsley died at age 73 years old in 1832.

In 1805, at the age of 46 years old, Joshua was alive when Joseph Smith Jr. was born on December 23rd in Sharon, Vermont. He grew up on a series of tenant farms in Vermont, New Hampshire, and New York and when he was 24, he published the Book of Mormon. By the time he died at the age of 38, he had tens of thousands of followers in his church - the Church of Latter Day saints.

In 1809, he was 50 years old when on May 5th, Mary Dixon Kies (March 21, 1752 – 1837) became the first recipient of a patent granted to a woman by the United States. She had developed a technique for weaving straw with silk and thread to make hats. While her hats were popular at first, fashion changed and she died penniless.
