He married Mary Jane (Piggott) Piggott, and had children Elizabeth Jane Piggott, Bessy Piggott, Susan Ann (Piggott) Sanders, John James Piggott, Violet May Piggott, and Josiah Piggott Jr.. Josiah Piggott died at age 63 years old on February 21, 1923 at Alfred Hospital in Prahran.
