  • Nationality & Locations

The Haufler family lived near the end of a small cul de sac in Edmonds, Washington, near Chase Lake, just off of 84th street.
  • Military Service

Karl served in WWII and he had a metal plate in his head, an injury he sustained in the war. I wish I had asked about it, but I'm sorry that I don't know any details. I heard from Kathee that sometimes he had headaches as a result of the injury and the plate.
  • Professional Career

Karl owned a managed a successful sporting goods store north of Seattle. He sold hunting and fishing supplies and was a master fly fisherman.
  • Personal Life & Family

Karl was very active in the Shriners (Nile Temple) and the Masons. I think he was also in the Scottish Rite, but I'm not sure of that. He loved being a part of the Nile's "Oriental Band," a group of Shriners that dressed up as their impression of Middle Eastern musicians. They played shinai-typed horns that buzzed like dozens of kazoos. Being a Shriner, Karl's three girls as well as the rest of us in the neighborhood had the ability to enjoy the beach at the Nile Temple Country Club on Lake Ballinger.

I would like the world to know that he was a good provider for his family-wife, Maxine, daughter Kathee, and "the twins", Judy and Joan. He was always kind to the neighborhood children, even though he though he sometimes presented a tough, rough exterior.
