  • Professional Career

    K.W.Pieratt, MD, was a 1927 graduate of the medical school in Arkansas famous for the "Razorbacks". He did not want to retire and actually worked as an MD until he was 86 years old. He was still delivering babies for $375 as of 1980. The other doctors in Dumas, Texas had raised their price for delivery to $450 and Dr. Pieratt said it was "highway robbery!" He no longer delivered babies by 1981, however he still had his office where he saw patients. Every day after lunch he would take a 10 minute nap in his office chair with his fedora over his face, a habit he said," learned in medical school", that kept him ready to go even in his 80's.

Virginia's father had told her that "If you see it in The Sun, it's so." So she wrote to the Sun, asking if there was a Santa Claus.
