Kesaia was my husbands cousin. I met him through Nina Bolatagici, Kesa’s mother who took me to Rukua Village on Beqa Island in Fiji. I got to know Nina and Kes well - both were good people and very kind to me. I loved them both dearly. Kesa worked with me in the VSO Pacific Field Office in Suva in 1982-84. She was a very bright and conscientious colleague, a joy to work with and a friend. I will never forget laughing with her when we listened to news of her cousin Epeli’s return to Fiji after his deportation from Darwin for overstaying. He had only been found because he played in an international rugby match that was televised! We laughed about the drama many times. Sadly when I returned to the UK I lost touch with Kesa who moved to the States. I was sbo sad to hear of her death some years after her passing. Had I known about her health problems I would have tried to help her.
