MADD
Laura's death had saved many lives. Laura's grandmother began advocating with Mother's Against Drunk Drivers after Laura's Death. MADD and Bakersfield Police program turned "A Life Interrupted" teamed up and began taking Laura's story from her grandmother's heart and other family members who had lost a loved one to drunk drivers, to businesses and Jr High/High schools to raise awareness on how drinking and driving, and killing someone while driving under the influence devastates and changes a family forever. Shortly after the program began, State Farm and a local car dealership teamed up and customized a trailer built to haul vehicles related to D.U.I. fatalities with Laura's fresh story in mind. Laura's mother donated her car to the program and it was hauled to local businesses and schools around Kern County. For 10 years Laura's car and her grandma told her story and saved lives. Her car had since been replaced due to its worsening condition and to replace it with a vehicle of a more recent story. Marsha Williams, Laura's Grandmother, then started a new program created by MADD, talking to newly released DUI offenders who just served on and was released for their first DUI offense. That program has since ended due to current day situations. Laura's grandmother was awarded by Bakersfield Police, A Life Interrupted and MADD , an Community's Citizenship Award.

The 25yr old man, Jorge Armando Diaz, dodged his charges and prison for a year and a half in court before FINALLY being sentenced 6 years for vehicular manslaughter. Of those 6 years, he served only 2 1/2 years and was released into the arms of his 2 daughters and family while our family, to this day, still feel and mourn her loss.
