Laura Salter Routley 1860 - 1924

Laura (Salter) Routley of Prahran, City of Stonnington County, VIC Australia was born in 1860 in Maryborough, Central Goldfields Shire County to Susan Martin Salter and Silas Salter. She had siblings Mary Emma (Salter) Passmore, Augusta Amelia Salter, Edith Salter Elliott, Ada Elina Salter, and Alfred Henry Salter. She married Richard Routley in 1877, and had children Richard Routley and Bertie Ernest Routley. Laura Routley died at age 63 years old on January 2, 1924 in Hotham Heights.

In 1874, by the time she was just 14 years old, on September 14th, the Battle of Liberty Place occurred in New Orleans - the capital of Louisiana. Some members of the previous Confederate Army assembled for the purpose of "driving the usurpers from power" and the Republican Governor - William P. Kellogg - was physically driven from his office. The former Confederates temporarily replaced him with (the former) Democratic Governor John McEnery. Federal forces arrived, put down the insurrection, and five days later the legally elected government was restored.
