Laura Margaret "Laurey" Parker Bernard, 68, of Paradise, passed away on Monday, February 14th, 2011, in a Sacramento hospital. She was recently diagnosed with Leukemia and developed Pneumonia. Her children and some of her grandchildren were with her. One of her daughters (Debra) held her hand and sang Amazing Grace as Laurey closed her eyes and slipped away. Last Rites of the Catholic Church had been given. Born August 8, 1942, in Los Angeles, Laurey was the eldest of two daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Allan Parker. Her father was a career Merchant Seaman and the family moved many times, living in various towns in California. She attended Mt. Diablo High School in Concord, and was one of the first presidents of the California Elvis Presley Fan Club, collecting every 45 rpm record Elvis ever recorded. Laurey's five children were all born in the San Francisco Bay area, and she loved the city of San Francisco, requesting that her ashes be scattered near Land's End. In the mid-1970's, she relocated to Paradise, where she helped raise three of her grandchildren. She was a lifelong dog lover and had recently adopted a new pet, following the loss of her long-time canine companion. An avid plant lover, she worked for a time as a floral designer and her homes were always filled with many varieties of plants. Most of all, Laurey passionately loved her family, and their sadness and grief over her loss is greatly felt. Survivors include her five children, twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her mother, her sister and a half-brother. She was preceded in death by her father, Allan Edward Parker, and a great-grandson, Andrew Dwelle. Arrangements were handled by The Neptune Society. "Because of your smile, you made life more beautiful."
