Lavinia's father Henry Tagget was born circa 1826. As no baptismal certificate can be found, it is believed that he was either born in Cornwall or in Devon. He is the son of William Taggett and Matilda Augusta Thompson who remained living in Cornwall throughout their entire life. William Taggett was born on Gibraltar on 5 September 1789.
William was named after his father William Taggart who according to his military records was born in 1748 at Kiltartan, Galway, Gore, Ireland. His mother's name was Joanna who was born in 1747 according to her death record. It is not known where she was born, or married William. She died 15 September 1823 in Stoke Dameral (now Plymouth) Devon, England.

His Majefty's Cambrian Regiment of Fencible Infantry whereof Lord Kesington, is Colonel.
These are to certify, that the Bearer hereof; William Taggart - private in company of the aoresiad Regiment. Born in the Parish of Kiltartan - in or near the Market Town of Gort in the County of Galway - aged 54 - and by trade as Glazier - has served honeftly and faithfully in the said regiment 3-1/2 years but by reason of the Regiment being disbanded also being very arthimatic and his also having served 30 years and 8 months previously in the 11th Regiment of Foot is hereby Difcharged and hereby recommended as a proper Object of His Majesty's (King George III) Royal Bounty of Chelsea Hospital. He having first received all just Demands of Pay, clothing, and c. from his Entry into the said Regiment, to the date of the Discharge, as appears by his Receipt on the Back of thereof.
