I am Lavina's granddaughter and am looking for information about her past. She may have been called Vine or Vinia before she was Lavina, and her maiden name most likely was Sample. One of her married names may have been Ayers. There may be an episode around 1930 (+/- 1 or 2 years either way) when she may have lost a baby to the state for being unwed??? I am trying to complete a family tree. I am not interested in drama. Just who her ex husband's were before she was married to my grandfather and what the kids names were and birth dates and death dates. The ex marriages would have been before 1947. I can extrapolate the rest from there from census and other records. I have no intention of going and finding people who don't want to be found, I just want an accurate tree. If you know anything, you can message me at deanna . c . kyle @ gmail . com. Thank you.

In 1914, in the year that Lavina v Rains was born, in June, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by a Yugoslavian national. Austria-Hungary delivered an ultimatum to Serbia. Other major powers took sides - and World War I began: Austria declared war on Serbia; Germany on Russia and France; Britain on Germany . . . and on it went until most of the world was embroiled in the war.

In 1932, she was 18 years old when on February 27th, actress Elizabeth Taylor was born in London. Her parents were Americans living in London and when she was 7, the family moved to Los Angeles. Her first small part in a movie was in There's One Born Every Minute in 1942 but her first starring role was in National Velvet in 1944. She became as famous for her 8 marriages (to 7 people) as she was for her beauty and films.

In 1961, at the age of 47 years old, Lavina was alive when on May 5th, Navy Cmdr. Alan B. Shepard, Jr., made the first manned Project Mercury flight, MR-3, in a spacecraft he named Freedom 7. He was the second man to go into space, the first was Yuri Gagarin - a Soviet cosmonaut.

In 1977, when she was 63 years old, on January 21st, President Carter pardoned "draft dodgers" - men who avoided the draft during the Vietnam War. He fulfilled a campaign promise with the pardon. But it only applied to civilian evaders - the estimated 500,000 to 1 million active-duty personnel who went AWOL were not included.

In 1988, in the year of Lavina v Rains's passing, on December 21st, Pan Am Flight 103 exploded over Lockerbie Scotland. The explosion killed all 259 people on board and another 11 on the ground. The flight had left Heathrow Airport in London less than an hour before, on its way to New York. After an exhaustive (and long) investigation it came to be believed that two individuals from Libya had planted the bomb.
