In 1932, in the year that Lena C Steward was born, five years to the day after Lindbergh crossed the Atlantic, Amelia Earhart flew solo from Newfoundland to Ireland, the first woman to cross the Atlantic solo and the first to replicate Lindbergh's feat. She flew over 2,000 miles in just under 15 hours.

In 1951, she was 19 years old when on April 5th, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg (husband and wife) were sentenced to death for treason. They were executed on June 19th. American citizens, they were convicted of spying for the Soviet Union. Their two young sons were adopted by a high school teacher and his wife.

In 1963, Lena was 31 years old when on November 22nd, Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson became the 36th President of the United States when President John Kennedy was shot and killed in Dallas, Texas. Johnson was sworn in on the plane carrying Kennedy's body back to Washington D.C.

In 1973, when she was 41 years old, in October, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned - President Nixon nominated Gerald Ford for Vice President. Nixon's tax returns came under investigation. Nixon offered the recently discovered Oval Office tapes be heard by one person and summarized - his offer was rejected by the Special Prosecutor. Nixon ordered the Attorney General, then the assistant Attorney General, to fire the Special Prosecutor. Both refused and were fired. The Solicitor General became the acting Attorney General and fired the Special Prosecutor (the Saturday Night Massacre). Nixon releases some of the tapes, under extreme pressure because of the firings.

In 1994, Lena was 62 years old when on May 6th, former political prisoner, lawyer, and activist Nelson Mandela was elected the first black President of South Africa. He was 75 when he was elected and he served one five-year term.

Celebrity Kidnapping of Charles Lindbergh Jr.
The kidnapping of the famous aviator and explorer Charles Lindbergh's first child took center stage during the 1930s. Lindbergh's celebrity and fame fueled public outrage over the crime, catapulting this kidnapping to the forefront of news, leading to a booby trap ransom, the 'trial of the century', the creation of Congress' Federal Kidnapping Act or the "Lindbergh Law" and the execution by electric chair of a kidnapper who plead his innocence until the end. Do you know what cow shoes, bootlegs, moonshiners, John Barleycorn, and stills are? Have you seen what these things really looked like? Discover for yourself what life was like during Prohibition with this collection of photos showing life from the 1920s until the early 1930s when people could legally drink again. Did you know: The Temperance movement, active throughout the 19th and early 20th century, led to Prohibition. Alcoholic beverages (their "sale, production, importation, and transportation") were banned from January 17th, 1920 through December 5th, 1933. While you couldn't distill or sell alcohol, you could drink it - if you could find it!
