Leoluca was not a veteran. His sons served in W.W.II except for my dad, who was 4F, with perforated ear drum . Son Emil, the youngest, Navy officer, a navigator on a PBY was lost. That’s-two sons. I think one was still born. The others were in the Army enlisted. Seven boys.

Leoluca came over on ship from Palermo, to New York. He migrated to Chicago, and finally to San Jose, California. The story is that he made stills for Al Capone. He was a Tin Smith. He had seven sons. He came to San Jose with my parents and my grandmother to live on East Empire Street. I remember how he would smoke Camel Cigarettes down to the fingernail while sitting on the front porch .
