Leona C Clor 1915 - 1998

Leona C (Brabant) Clor of Sault Sainte Marie, Chippewa County, MI was born on February 26, 1915 in Brimley to Joseph Brabant and Lydia E. Brabant. She had siblings Florence v Evans, Helen M Robinson, and Francis Brabant. She married Alfred L Clor on January 1, 1939, and had children James Louis Clor and William Clor. Leona Clor died at age 83 years old in September 1998 in Sault Ste. Marie, and was buried at Oak Lawn Cemetery W Oak Lawn Rd, in Sault Ste. Marie.

In 1915, in the year that Leona C Clor was born, the Superior Court in Fulton County Georgia accepted the charter for the establishment of the new Ku Klux Klan, succeeding the Klan that flourished in the South in the late 1800's. This iteration of the Klan adopted white clothing and used many of the code words from the first Klan, adding cross burnings and mass marches in an attempt to intimidate others.

In 1923, she was just 8 years old when on August 2, President Warren G. Harding died in office, apparently of a heart attack. He was staying at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco after completing a nationwide tour. Suffering from cramps, indigestion, a fever and shortness of breath, his doctor thought he had food poisoning. After several days of being ill, he suddenly shuddered, slumped over, and died. There were rumors of foul play (some thought that his wife had poisoned him because of his affairs) but no evidence has ever been found.
