    Leonard Hirsch Weinkle is the son of Isaac Weinkle (1879-1949) and Florence "Fan" Rosenthal (1884-1958). He was born on January 7, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia and had sisters Evelyn (1919-1995) and Sylvia Doris Weinkle (1921-2003). He enlisted into the US military on June 8, 1943 in Fort Mcpherson Atlanta, Georgia. Leonard is a veteran of WWII and fought in the Army at the Battle of the Bulge. Leonard was married to Ruth Rogal (1927-2020) and they had multiple children together including a daughter named Carolyn Weinkle (1952-2019). He owned 6 Georgia Outdoors stores in Atlanta, following the opening of his first store, in Decatur, in 1963.
