Her focus on the movement of the human body rather than formal kinds of dance helped to give rise to the modern dance movement.

In 1914, at the age of merely 9 years old, Leonie was alive when in June, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated by a Yugoslavian national. Austria-Hungary delivered an ultimatum to Serbia.
