LeRoy Bell Moppins Sr. was born to Roy Moppin (born 1879) and Nannie Gatten (born 1893). His father was a coalminer who was born in Kentucky and his mother was a housewife who was also born in Kentucky. He had three siblings: two brothers, one of whom was Ernest, and one sister, Agnes. Leroy Moppins married Odell Poindexter (1922 - 2013) and they had three sons, Leroy Jr, Darryl and Evan, who survived Leroy and one son, James who predeceased him. They also had four daughters who survived him: Dian, Patricia, Lisa, and Elsie, and one who predeceased him, Sandra. Leroy and Odell were married for 50 years when he died and he was also survived by eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Leroy belonged to Mount Ararat Masonic Lodge No. 73 in Greenville, Kentucky.

LEROY BELL MOPPINS CENTRAL CITY - Leroy Bell Moppins, 81, of Central city died Tuesday, March 29, 1995 at his home. He was born in Evansville, was retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority plant in Paradise; was a member of Mount Ararat Masonic Lodge No. 73 in Greenville and Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Central City; and was a World War II veteran. He was preceded in death by a son, James Moppins of Central City, and a daughter, Sandra Merriweather. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Odell Poindexter Moppins; three sons, Leroy Moppins Jr. of Atlanta, and Darryl and Evan Moppins, both of Central city; four daughters, Diane, Patricia and Lisa Moppins, all of Central City, and Elsie Browning of Greenville; a son-in-law, George Browning of Central City; and two daughters-in-law, Karen Moppins of Atlanta and Doreen Moppins of Greenville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. Burial in West End Cemetery, Greenville. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
