He had siblings Edith Annie (Langley) Thomson, Alice Blanche (Langley) Summers, Lily Maud Langley, Walter Arthur Langley, Henry Charles Langley, Thomas Edwin Langley, and Florence Eva (Langley) Stokes. Leslie Langley died at age 71 years old in 1942.

In 1871, in the year that Leslie Pearson Langley was born, on October 8th, 4 major fires started on the shores of Lake Michigan - in Chicago (Illinois), Peshtigo (Wisconsin), Holland (Michigan) and Manistee (Michigan). The Chicago fire is the most well known of them because it left almost 100,000 people homeless. But the Peshtigo Fire killed around 2,500 people. The casualty count made it the deadliest fire in US history.

In 1896, by the time he was 25 years old, in April, the first study on global warming due to CO2 - carbon dioxide - in the atmosphere was published by Swedish scientist Svante Arrhenius. Arrhenius concluded that human activity due to the Industrial Revolution would amplify CO2 in the atmosphere, causing a greenhouse effect. His conclusions have been extensively tested in the ensuing 100+ years and are still seen to hold true.
