Lewis Elwood Runion was born on June 2, 1923 in Nutter Fort, Harrison, West Virginia, USA to parents John Henry Runion (1884-1960) and Icie Viola Haun (1895-1966). He had siblings Charles Henry Runion (1915-1997), Junior Edward Runion (1918-1968), Goldie Runion (1922-1981), George Francis Runion (1926-1926), and William James Runion (1931-1993). He lived in Paw Paw, Marion, West Virginia and in 1942, he married Wilma Olive Tennant (1925-2006). They had children together and lived in Bristal Twp, Day, West Virginia, USA. Lewis enlisted on March 20, 1943 in Fort Hayes Columbus Ohio and served in the US Army from March 20, 1943 until January 28, 1946.
