Lily Greer Obituary
Retired music consultant of the Sonoma County Office of Education passed away on August 28, 2008 in Santa Rosa at the age of 104. She was born in Iowa, and as a child her parents moved to Reedly, where they lived until she graduated from Reedley High School. She attended UCLA and USC, graduating with a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Music Education with Phi Kappa Phi honors. Lily retired in 1969 after 42 years in Music Education. Her experience was extensive, including elementary supervision, high school vocal instruction and teaching extension classes for Fresno State College, San Francisco State College and Santa Rosa Junior College. She will be remembered by many friends and former students for her six years of elementary chorus concerts that were held at Sonoma County Fair Pavilion every spring from 1963 to 1968 - each concert was comprised of 1000 students. A charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Santa Rosa, she was their choir director for 21 years. She was a life member of the California Teachers and the National Music Educators Association; a member of the National Education Association, the National Retired Teacher, the California Retired Teachers, and the Sonoma County Retired Teachers Division. Lily was a past president of the Sonoma County Retired Teachers Division, Soroptimist International of Santa Rosa, Las Rosas Business and Professional Women, Sequoia Branch of the American Association of University Women, Alpha Upsilon Chapter of Phi Sigma, the Saturday Afternoon Club, secretary of the Santa Rosa Community Concert Association, and Gama Tau Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma. She is preceded in death by her parents Anton and Ane Hansen, husband Wesley Greer, brother Dr. Bernard T. Hansen, stepsons, Robert, Richard and John Greer, daughter-in-law, Marilyn Greer (wife of Robert) granddaughter Lynda Greer Hanneman and grandson Jeffrey Allen Greer. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Bernice Greer Bartolucci (Henry) of Kelseyville, and Deloyce Greer Maples of IL; grandson Leslie Michael Greer (Teri Willows), granddaughters, Cheryl Greer Bass (Tim), Diane Greer Simon and Nancy Greer Hemphill of IL, great-grandchildren, Matthew Brown, Jessica Brown, Ashley Greer, Sabrina Goehring, Jeremy Greer, Meredith Strecker, Keith Simon, Tim Simon Katie Simon Christopher Hemphill; and four great-great grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the friends and Caregivers who did so much to make her last years happy ones - especially Adi Nava for the wonderful love and care she provided. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 4930 Newanga Ave, Santa Rosa.
